A grid-tied solar PV system is mounted either on the roof or ground and creates electricity using the power of the sun and feeds the electricity directly into your house when required.
A roof mounted solar PV system works best for buildings with good sun exposure and few obstacles or obstructions that would provide shade.
A ground mounted solar PV system is ideal for larger energy consumption, and can be positioned to maximize solar energy generation.
When the solar PV system is not producing sufficient power, the home can draw power from the utility grid.
Any excess electricity generated by the solar PV system can be dispersed in 2 ways, it can be fed back into the utility grid for net-metering, or in some cases, it fed into an optional battery backup for later use in case of a power outage or when the solar PV system is no longer generating power
Net-metering is the process of selling your excess renewable energy generated by your solar PV system back to your hydro provider. In turn, your hydro provider will bill you credits that can be used towards your future grid-reliant energy use. It’s as if you were storing your excess solar generated electricity on the utility grid and it will be given back to you when you require its use. If you have leftover credits on your anniversary date, your hydro provider will pay you for the electricity at market price.
A backup generator can be also implemented in your residential grid-tied solar PV system. A backup generator can also be useful during a blackout period when no electricity is being produced by the solar PV system or the utility grid. With a backup generator, you won’t have to worry about power outage issues any longer.

Why install Solar in your home?
Complete energy independence
A solar PV system on your home can generate clean energy and savings on your electricity bills for 30+ years and earn you double on your initial investment over the systems life span.
Earn credit to decrease your bill
When you generate excess energy that is fed back into the utility grid, your hydro provider allows you to earn credits through their net-metering program, helping you lower your utility bill.
Increase your properties value
A 2018 Kelowna study shows that your home’s property value increases by $6,000 for every 1kW of solar installed.
Contribute to a greener future
When adding a renewable energy system to your home you are actively decreasing your carbon footprint. EV owners can have the cost of their car’s energy consumption covered by the solar panels on their property.

Solar panel cells absorb the sun’s energy in the form of photons and then converts them into electrons, taking the form of DC (direct current) electricity. A solar cell, or PV (photovoltaic) cell is made up of 2 types of silicon that promote positive and negative electrical charges that are surrounded by conducting metals which transfer the electrons. The panel is topped with extremely durable tempered glass allows light in while protecting the PV cell from damage.
Before DC electricity can be sent to the electrical panel it must be converted into AC (alternating current). AC power is used to supply electricity to all connected properties. In order to convert DC power from the solar PV cell into AC power that can be used, the electrical current must pass through an inverter. This is the final step before power can be transferred from the solar panels into your home for everyday use.
Once the inverter converts the power to AC, it can then be sent to the electrical panel. An electrical panel is a component of the electricity supply system that divides electrical power into subsidiary circuits that power appliances, lights, receptacles, etc. throughout the home.
In a residential grid-tied solar PV system, a hydro or bidirectional meter controls the flow of energy to or from your electricity supplier. When your solar PV system produces excess electricity it can either be stored in optional backup batteries or it can be sold to your utility provider for credits on your electricity bill (net-metering). When your solar PV system is no longer producing sufficient power to your home, you can still rely on your energy company to provide electricity so you do not experience a blackout.
A backup generator can be implemented in your residential grid-tied solar PV system. A backup generator utilizes a small combustion engine to create electrical current. It can be very useful during a blackout period when no electricity is being produced by the solar PV system, optional backup batteries or the utility grid. With a backup generator, you won’t have to worry about power outage issues any longer.
Optional deep cycle batteries could also be utilized in a residential grid-tied solar PV system to store excess DC electricity generated by the solar panels. The energy stored in the backup batteries can then be dispersed during a blackout period when no electricity is being produced by the solar PV system or the utility grid.
